As I decided that i am going to study medicine and that is the only career for me, I decided to take my first step. I did this by going to a course called MEDLINK. At first I wasn't to sure what wanted to achieve from this course. The course consisted of four days of lectures and some activities. the lectures usually ran from about 9:00 am to 11:00 pm, these lectures were talked through by a range of doctors, professors, and also staff from the medlink team, the lectures were very interesting and gave a lot of insight on a Doctors life, from GP's to Surgeons. in this experience i gained a lot of information on how to apply for universities, what steps I needed to take to improve my chances of getting in etc... The goal of these lectures were to give me an edge on being better at applying for universities and studying medicine than every one else.
My favourite Lecture was the EDGE session. this was delivered by a very inspiring man called James, he got a lot of information through to the students by applying humour to speech and also being serious when required. in this session i gained a lot of information and i really enjoyed it too.
As well as lectures there was also a clinical session where we learnt to use stethoscopes and how to apply the skills we learnt by testing the stethoscopes out on our partners.
Overall MEDLINK was a very good and useful experience and I recommend it to anyone wanting or thinking out about studying medicine.
